I Wonder

With wings of brown and gold
It flittered about--so proud--
Too proud I thought!
Rested on flowers'petals
Only for mere moments
Then away it glided
To visit with a blade of grass.
It made no sound.

It couldn't sing or shout
I could do so much more--
Why wasn't I proud?
I cried to myself out loud!

Suddenly it flew and circled me
And gently sat on my arm
Neither it nor I felt alarm
As if it sensed my question,
It seemed to hum
"You, too, can be like me"
"Why you could fly
If you would only try--
Maybe not with wings
Like I possess--but with your mind-- To do the things
To make you proud as I."
And then away it flew. . . .
Thanks Butterfly!
