THE SAILBOAT

It was just a toy--
In his bath it would float,
But soon became no ordinary boat
To him, a boy of three,
It appeared to grow in size
Indeed, in his eyes,
It was a sturdy ship
With crew of mighty men.

A backyard pool was now
Its new playground
The boy wanted his friends
To see how it sailed
All around the pool--so free!

When the boy became four
It had outgrown this water
So it was taken to a pond
Down by a shady lawn
Where the toy seemed at home.

With every swerve, its size increased
Playmates gazed with unbelieving eyes
(Still a tiny sailboat to them)
Why couldn't they have a toy
Such as his--sailing in huge waters?

I don't know if they ever did
Perhaps they could not believe
Strong enough--long enough--
To have a ship such as his!

But, as this story goes--
That little boy is a grown man
And a stately yacht is waiting
On the lake on his own land
For he kept his faith and dream alive~~~
