THE BREEZE

The breeze glides through the trees
And fades like old memories
But, once again, seems to hum
The music of a lonely song.

Lovely leaves are tossed to the ground
Like wishes and dreams
To be stepped on by many feet--
Strangers I'll never even meet.
It's sad to see such beautiful thoughts
End up who knows where--
And, really, who's to care?
The breeze subsides and gently dies
Leaving me alone--
At least for this day.

The breeze returned--
As I knew it would--
To intertwine with my eager mind.
What does it bring now--more heartache?
Somehow it blends with magic ways
Stirs up forgotten nights and days
It taps at my window pane
Asking me to join it for a while
But I'm afraid--can I be free?
Can I accept the breeze
And soar away to sights unknown--
To places seen only in my dreams?

Well, I listened to the breeze--
Took a trip I'll never forget!
I was high above all poverty,
All stress--all wars--all conflict.
The air was pure--the water clear,
Green grass and lovely flowers
Birds, fish, all animals greeted me
For they were safe to live in harmony
With people who helped each other
Enjoy their lives.

Oh, but too soon, it was all over.
The breeze returned me to my reality
And I quickly locked the door--
Afraid once more~~~~~~~~~~
