Author Notes: Let me reiterate. This story contains SPOILERS!!. If you have just recently discovered the television series and/or have not yet seen the third movie, then you might not want to read any further. However, if you are already familiar with both, then I hope you find this AU offering enjoyable.
Also, I am using the English-dubbed versions of the movie and series as my model, sort of speak. That means that:
1) InuYasha's sword will be called Tetsusaiga ( rather than the more correct Tessaiga )
2) I will be using very few japanese words through out this tale, since it is assumed that the characters are already speaking in their native tongue. So no honorifics and the like. Just words that are descriptive to unique things, like the by-now familiar; Hakama, Haori, Hanyou, Taiyoukai, etc..
There are, however a few less familiar terms. So here's a short glossary:
shoji screens: These are latticed screens that were used like outer walls in the homes of the nobility, and of the more affluent.
fusama screens: These are screens used to partition the interior rooms. Often elaborately painted.
ramma: These are open-carved wooden lintels ( for lack of a better word.. ) that were above the fusama, and provided ventilation.
sudare: These are reed curtains that hung over some doorways ( like over the entrances of village homes, or like in the ' Birthing Room' from InuYasha, Movie 3 ).
okitatami: Essentially folded tatami that provided raised seating for those of higher rank within a room. Often used with large cushions that acted sort of like back-rests.
hanjo: This was a 1/2 size tatami, used exclusively for seating.
